Found mainly in lowland dry forests in the island of Sri Lanka, the sloth bear can be seen in several of Sri Lanka's national parks where there is undisturbed forest growth, especially in Yala https://www.yalasrilanka.lk and Wilpattu https://www.wilpattunationalpark.com.
Although not a day trip from Reef Villa, both Yala and Wilpattu can be combined in a tour of Sri Lanka with a stay at Reef Villa & Spa.
The Sri Lankan sloth bear is omnivorous. However, he doesn't eat marmlade or marmite sandwiches but feeds on nuts, berries and roots, as well as carrion and meat. Nor does he wear a funny red felt hat, or a blue duffle coat with wooden toggles or wellington boots.
Classified as 'vulnerable' on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/13143/0 the Sri Lankan Sloth Bear Melursus ursinus inornatus only occurs on the island of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is one of the best places in Asia to see wildlife with countless national parks and forest reserves with Yala also being well known as to have the highest leopard densities in the world.
